Forms of Education
We are implementing a modern approach based on the high degree of student’s freedom and independence. Students are studying independently under our supervision and control.
Undergraduate Degrees (Associate and Bachelor's Degrees)
We are measuring studies in the number of educational credits received.
Graduate Degrees (Master's Degrees)
Master's degree are completed by accumulation at least 30-36 U.S. educational credits (recommended 45 U.S. credits). All costs are assessed "per program" and are not based on the number of credits received.
Doctoral and PhD Degrees
Doctoral and PhD Degrees are completed according to the required approaches. We are using different approaches adopted to student's educational and professional level.
Examples: Doctoral degrees (with exception of PhD) that are based entirely on studies. PhD degrees based on Dissertation preparation (for established professionals with significant research experience). PhD degrees based on studies and Dissertation preparation. PhD degrees based on published work or already existed research materials.

United States and European principles of education
According to the Bologna Process (European educational principles), results of studies can be reflected as pass/fail. Passed studies are creating educational credits (units). We believe that pass/fail evaluation approach is the least discriminative approach, because nobody can downgrade student’s performance (but if student desires to have A-F grading scale, we can do it as well).
Instead of multiple-choice tests, students are submitting to us detailed Essays for the completed courses. Each course of studies can bring on average 3 credits (North American approach), or 6 ECTS credits (if principles of Bologna Process are used - European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System/ECTS).
Holy State University uses similar educational guidelines as in universities
located in the
United States and in the European Union. To ensure
similarity in education for the European students, we are
adhering to the provisions and
principles of the Bologna Process, accepted by the American and
European educational institutions.
See page "Bologna Process"
Our education can be classified as an education performed by the method of correspondence (electronic correspondence). In our place, burden of responsibilities would be largely shifted to students. We will not force you to study and you must have your own desire for knowledge. We will be examining your work, but only you would be that person that can hold actual knowledge. Only your personal knowledge is that factor that will help you to find and to hold your future job.
In Holy State University we are creating sophisticated people that are mature, independent and willing to use own efforts in educational process. All studies are independent, with our supervision and guidance. Students are responsible for selecting study materials and textbooks according to provided by us study courses. For assessment of studies, students will be sending to us written (in electronic form) comprehensive Essays reflecting student's knowledge of the subject. Quality of Essay would be the indicator of the quality and coverage of studies. Student must have access to the Internet.
We are giving to each student ability to make own independent decisions. Student selects own study materials and most suitable books for studies. Student can buy books from any store, can use books from any library, or can use free books that student may find on the Internet in electronic format. Student also can search for the information on the Internet (Internet can provide significant amount of information that is free and often very similar to the information available in most printed books).
Academic Year
Academic Year is not the same as Calendar Year. Academic Year is not a Calendar Year (Academic Year never measured in 365 days). Academic Year is a measurement Unit of the level of educational process. It can be measured, for example, in the number of educational credits received and Academic Year never measured in months or days. In the United States, "academic year" represents successful completion of 30 U.S. educational credits (30 U.S. credits are representing approximately 10 courses per “academic year” and are the same as 60 ECTS credits). In some countries, Academic Year is made the same length as the Calendar Year; however it is only made for the educational institution convenience. Academic Year can be shorter than the Calendar Year.
Each educational (academic) year has 30 U.S. credits per Academic Year, if we are using 30-credits per Academic Year system (also called in our University the "North American System"); or 60 educational credits (ECTS credits) per Academic Year, if we are using 60-credits per academic year system (also called in our University the "International or European System"). In both systems, the number of study hours per academic year is identical. 30 U.S. credits per Academic Year system would not give any financial advantage because administrative fees are the same.
Administrative fees are based on the number of credits completed in each Academic Year. Student is completing “academic year” when student receives 30 U.S. educational credits (if we are using 30 U.S. credits per academic year approach). It does not matter if student completed Academic Year in 12 months or in lesser number of months.
Educational Credit
Each area of study may generate from one to several educational credits depending on the course ("educational credit" sometimes is called "credit hour" and different universities are using different names for the same educational credits). It is generally assumed that each educational credit is equal to approximately 45-50 academic hours of studies per credit, if we are using 30 U.S. credits per Academic Year system (also called in our University the "North American System"). However, educational credit is equal to approximately 25 academic hours of studies, if we are using 60 ECTS credits per Academic Year system (also called in our University the "International or European System").
If student selects "North American System", his/her academic year will have requirement for the completion of 30 educational credits per "Academic Year".
If student selects evaluation based on the Bologna Process (European), his/her academic year will have the requirement for the completion of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) educational credits per "Academic Year".
Academic Hour
Academic Hour is equal to 45 - 50 minutes.
Straightforward evaluation
We may use (if requested by student, or at our discretion) non-discriminative Pass/Fail academic evaluation system without additional form of grading, or other form of selective (discriminative) grading.
We believe that "Pass/Fail academic evaluation system of grading is totally neutral and prevents any form of potential discriminative downgrading.
Pass/Fail academic evaluation is fully acceptable under the Bologna Process (European) and by the American educational evaluation system.
United States and European Union evaluations
We are ONLY using the United States grading, or European ECTS grading. No other evaluation methods would be used (even if requested by student).
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS
United States Evaluation System:
Values are applied to grades as follows:
A - Excellent B - Good C - Average, Fair D - Poor F - Failure
A = four grade points per educational credit B = three grade points per educational credit C = two grade points per educational credit D = one grade point per educational credit F = zero grade points per educational credit
A = 4 B = 3 C = 2 D = 1 F = 0
We will not be adding "-" or "+" because this method is more suitable for exact performance calculations that are based on the specifically designed tests.
Approximate educational values:
1 course = 3 U.S. credits 1 credit U.S. = 50 academic hours of studies (independent) 1 academic hour = 45 - 50 minutes
European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System
ECTS grading scale (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System):
A - excellent work, minor errors allowed B - above average work with some errors C - reasonable work with a number of notable errors D - fair work with significant omissions E – work with minimum acceptance standards FX - fail, but credit can be awarded after additional work F - fail, significant additional work is required
Approximate educational values: 1 course = 6 ECTS credits 1 credit European = 25 academic hours of studies (independent) 1 academic hour = 45 - 50 minutes
GRADUATE / POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS
MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMS
Methods of evaluation: see above.
Master’s Thesis may generate 6 to 12 credits/United States, or 12 - 24 credits/European.
All studies / research subjects and Master's Thesis are listed in educational record (Transcript).
DOCTORAL AND PHD DEGREE PROGRAMS
Methods of evaluation: studies / research subjects and PhD Thesis would be listed in educational record (Transcript), no grades are assigned in Doctoral and PhD programs. Upon request, we will assign educational credits for studies / research subjects and PhD Thesis.
PhD Thesis (Dissertation) may generate 24 credits / United States (can be more, based on the quality), or 48 credits / European.
All studies / research subjects and PhD Thesis are listed in educational record (Transcript).
Sending educational work to us
After learning a subject independently, student prepares written work (educational Essay) related to the subject / course learned and submits it to us by electronic mail.
Each enrolled student will receive instructions for preparation of written work. We are not providing any additional information to people that are not enrolled . Each subject of studies may generate several educational credits.
We are providing basic supportive guidance. If we would issue to student a passing score for the Essay (written educational work), educational credits are added to the student's educational file.
Benefits of our Educational system
How fast you can study
You can study as fast (or as slow) as you want.
See also Page "Accelerated Education"
In Holy State University, your Academic Year can be short, or long; it is fully based on personal desire to complete educational process in accelerated manner.
Please note that you are not paying for each Calendar Year, but for the number of completed educational credits that are composing each Program. If you completed 60 ECTS educational credits or 30 U.S. credits in 6 months, you are paying administrative fees for the full Academic Year (not 50% less), because in 6 months you managed to complete requirements of the full Academic Year.
Calculation of Academic Year
Student will have a choice to select "International or European System" that has 60 ECTS educational credits per Academic Year, or "North American System" (the United States) that has 30 U.S. educational credits per Academic Year. In both systems, cost of education is identical and number of study hours per Academic Year are also identical; the difference is only in the number of study hours per each educational credit.
Each area of studies may generate several educational credits (sometimes called "credit hours" or "credits"). Each educational credit requires 20-25 academic hours of studies, if we are using 60 credits per Academic Year system (also called in our University "International or European System"); or 45-50 academic hours of studies per credit, if we are using 30 credits per Academic Year system (also called in our University "North American System" / U.S.).
In compliance with Bologna Process [together with the Unites States educational approach] we are using European System (60 ECTS credits per Academic Year), if requested.
At present time, some U.S. universities are switching to 60 credits per Academic Year system that makes U.S. educational evaluations similar to the European Union system (for universities that adopted rules of the Bologna Process). Study hours (academic hours) are identical in both approaches, the only difference is that more credits are issued for the same courses, when 60-credits per Academic Year system is used. See also our section "Educational Credits".
Each student spends on average about 1500 academic hours (academic hour is equal to 45 - 50 minutes) per Academic Year for studies (independent studies in our university), regardless if student is studying in the university that is using evaluation system with 30 (U.S.) or 60 (ECTS) academic credits per Academic Year. 1500 academic hours are equal to 1250 astronomical hours (regular hours).
If student is able to study 8 regular hours each day, then it is possible that he/she will be able to complete Academic Year requirements in approximately 160 days (representing about 5.5 months). Some people can study even faster. It is at student's discretion, how fast student wants to complete all studies.
Regular and Self-Designed Programs
Regular Curriculum This is an educational plan (curriculum) that we are offering on regular basis.
Self-Designed curriculum This is an educational plan (curriculum) designed by student and approved by us.
Custom-made curriculum Custom-made curriculum or custom-made program is the curriculum or program tailored to student's personal needs. When you are visiting our informational pages, you may see the lists of of courses or programs that we are offering. General rule is that our lists are not all-inclusive (representing only limited options, and only as an example). You may always request program and study subjects (courses) according to your needs, desire, experience and knowledge (we cannot guarantee acceptance of your request, but most likely, it would be granted).
Costs are the same for Regular, Self-designed or Custom-made curriculums or programs.

Educational plans
Educational curriculum (educational plan) is representing a list of study disciplines that usually assigned for each semester or Academic Year. You may save your time and can stop looking for curriculums on our website.
As you probably
noticed, we are offering to each student greatest degree of
freedom and expression. Our curriculums are custom-made and
tailored to each student individually. Also, please note
that studies are independent, but we
are controlling educational standards and quality of
student’s work.
You need to be admitted, as a first step.
Education process
starts with an option given to student to prepare a list of
desired courses/studies (not everybody can do it, but we are giving to
students this opportunity). Obviously, we are not expecting
professionally made curriculums; but it could be a list of desired disciplines
prepared by student (this way, student can include subjects
that he/she prefers to learn).
Another important reason for giving student this option (to participate in preparation of curriculum) can be explained by the specifics of ONLINE education that is extended to people from different countries. Each country has own specifics and local universities (universities of student’s own country of residence) usually are offering some study areas (disciplines) that not offered in other countries.
It can be assumed that after the graduation, each student is planning to work in his/her own country. When we are asking student to make a list of desired study subjects, we are assuming that he/she would investigate most popular study disciplines commonly offered in universities of student’s own country. This way, education of student would be similar to the education offered in student’s own country.
We would examine the list of disciplines (study subjects) made by student and we will apply all necessary corrections to make it equal to the international educational standards. Most definitely, plan prepared by student, probably would be listing only desired disciplines and we will be preparing complete curriculum for the student, taking into consideration the needs of student.
Making own curriculum is not obligatory, but only optional approach. When student is admitted, student needs to tell us (in writing) his plans for the professional career. After that, custom curriculum (list of study disciplines) will be prepared reflecting educational and professional goals of each individual student. This is the reason for not posting curriculums on our website (because all studies are reflecting individual preferences), but at the same time, we will make such plans (curriculums) equal to the common international standards for education.
